Do seasonal expenses leave you short?

I need to borrow money fast for seasonal expenses…

It is somewhat ironic that the special times of year that we look forward to so much can also be those that cause us the most stress. As we think of occasions like Christmas and summer holidays – and even some of the great British Bank holidays – and there is always one big fly in the ointment. Money! Whilst we would love to entertain family and friends, or perhaps go away somewhere nice, it all costs money and seems to spiral out of control more and more each time.

It’s not surprising therefore that you end up thinking “I need to borrow money fast!” But what is the best way to go about this?

Some options to consider

The first thing to consider is rather than panicking and slipping further into debt, why not plan in advance to raise a bit of extra money and set it aside to enjoy the holiday? Two ways you could try and do this are either by taking on additional work or selling some of your goods.

Additional Work

You may be able to find seasonal work in the run up to a holiday, something you could do for a few evenings or weekends to fit in around your day job. Try looking at hotels and conference centres, exhibitions and special events, pubs, restaurants, shops and markets, theatres, cinemas, other entertainment venues and sports centres.

If going out to do extra work is difficult for you try looking online. There are a wide variety of Internet sites – such as Upwork and Amazon Mechanical Turk – that list extra work that you can do from home.

Or you could try and initiate some work opportunities by spotting a need and offering to fill it. If you have a skill that people need – and have the necessary references where applicable – this could be a good way of earning some extra cash quickly. You may be able to do babysitting, dog walking, cleaning, garden clearing, DIY or odd jobs – any of the services for which busy people would be prepared to pay someone reliable.

Sell something

Most of us have a variety of items that we don’t really use and that we may be able to sell. You can do this online using sites like eBay or Shpock or Gumtree. Some sites – such as WeBuyBooks, Music Magpie and Ziffit – offer the facility to sell items such as books, CDs and DVDs in bulk.

There are also many options to sell locally such as a car boot sale, a local Internet selling site or adverts in local newspapers or shop windows. Some goods such as jewellery can also be sold to shops for instant cash.

Or how about creating some personalised goods to sell. Can you sew or bake, or paint or sculpt, or make music or write stories? Think outside the box and maybe you will find your niche!

How Logbook Loans could help

If you do still decide that you need to borrow money fast then do be careful who you borrow from and make sure that you find a lender that you feel you can trust. But at the same time do try to regularly put a bit of money aside from now on so as to avoid any more holiday panics in the future!

If however, after much consideration, a loan is the right option for you then take a moment to read up on our logbook loans calculator to help you understand how much you can borrow, the interest rates and the loan terms.
